The necklace is stunning despite being crafted by mortal hands. Pure pink sapphires rest in delicate gold settings hanging from an ornate gold chain. It sits proudly in the shop window, resting on a shiny black pillow. Sunlight glitters from it as sunlight streams through. He had been focused on getting himself some food but seeing this trinket had caused him to stop to admire it. He spies a little white place card by it. The card says the necklace is four hundred gold pieces.

He chokes. That is quite a bit of gold but he is well aware that gold jewellery isn’t cheap at all. Pink sapphires aren’t either.

But such a thing would be worth the price. There isn’t a woman who wouldn’t love it and Lirasael would surely smile if he presented it to her.

He reaches into his pocket but receives a smack of reality. He doesn’t have enough. After paying rent and buying supplies, they hadn’t had very much left over this time around. What money he did have was barely enough to afford a cheap ring.
Figures. He can’t even manage to have enough good luck to get things the honest way. But that was all right. There are ways of acquiring things without honesty.

Preparing his magic, his muscles tense up, readying for when he has to grab the necklace without being seen. A simple teleportation spell is just what he needs and would allow him to get in and out quickly and with none the wiser.

At the last second, he freezes.

Lirasael would know it was stolen.

She wouldn’t be happy.

A stolen gift couldn’t possibly make her happy.

It was one of her bizarre angel traits. Everything had to be done the honest way.

She knows how much they have, how much they take in and how they needed to use it. She had told him they didn’t have enough right now to do much with. They had to be careful.

He’s been doing his best. Resisting the dark urges inside him is no easy task. There’s a constant urge to wreck havoc, to pass his pain onto others but he’s trying so hard to keep them all in check… all for her. And it doesn’t go unnoticed. Lirasael is still with him, despite all the danger they face for being a demon and angel who are together.

Something inside him protests when he lets go of the magic. He steps heavily away from the shop. He tells it to shut up grimly. Surely, that necklace can’t be the only thing that could make Lirasael smile…

He looks around. The streets of this city are packed. People shuffle up and down in every direction. Hiding out in this heavily populated city had been a smart move. It had kept them safe so far. Unfortunately, it has been hard on him. He can smell the blood pounding through the humans. He knows they possess juicy organs and meat. It makes his mouth water.

But he can’t attack them. Any of them.

Lirasael did make sure he had raw meat though. In fact, she had sent him out so he could get the food he needs.

He goes toward the marketplace where traders are selling freshly tanned hides, cruder jewellery, fabrics and all sorts of vegetables and meats. As he purchases some, he keeps going over and over in his mind of what he could get for his angel. He just wants to do something nice.

As he is heading back to the tiny room he shares with Lirasael, he finally comes up with a solution.

He stops again and picks her up a bouquet of flowers.
